Donate to the Preventing Violence Against Women & Girls Program

Poverty, conflict, and violence tends to affect women and girls the greatest, as society’s most vulnerable. The Fund for Peace operates programs geared towards better understanding the underlying conflict drivers behind violence affecting women and girls, and establishing mechanisms for helping to combat the challenge – through observatories that report on incidents of violence against woman and girls, and multistakeholder networks that act to prevent or mitigate those incidents. One such program has particularly focused on protecting women and girls from harm perpetrated by the Boko Haram terrorist group in northern Nigeria. We welcome contributions to help us continue the fight against violence against women and girls. We will send a receipt to the address supplied that will allow you to take advantage of the tax-deduction to the full extent permitted by law.

As demonstrated by the Bottom 100, there is a close correlation between poverty and conflict. As an underlying cause and key driver of poverty, conflict must be addressed and mitigated for there to be any hope of relieving the conditions of extreme poverty and suffering in many parts of the world. The Fund for Peace works with local community groups in conflict-affected areas, training them in better understanding the drivers of conflict in their own communities, and giving them the tools required to begin to address those challenges. FFP’s approach is innovative, in using technology – such as geo-temporal mapping and social network analysis – to assist peacebuilding networks to efficiently mitigate conflict events. We welcome contributions to help us continue to train and provide critical technological platforms to local communities battling violence and conflict.

It is impossible to adequately address poverty, conflict, and instability without being able to understand the specific drivers; further, it is equally impossible to accurately quantify change over time without measuring it. The Fragile States Index, in annually measuring the social, economic, and political pressures experienced by 178 countries, does just that – using a robust, peer-reviewed conflict assessment framework as its basis, the Index is able to quantify the performance of countries on matters ranging from demographic pressures to rule of law to group grievance and social cohesion. In doing so, policy makers are able to better understand specific causes of instability, and thus policy interventions can be more successfully designed and implemented. Though the Fragile States Index has built an international reputation over 13 years, a little known fact is that it is performed pro bono by the staff of The Fund for Peace – that is, the program is unfunded, and FFP’s staff produce the Index as a volunteer initiative. We therefore welcome contributions to help offset the costs of producing the Fragile States Index, a valuable tool for policy makers to better address the underlying causes of poverty, conflict, and instability around the world.
